I was born and raised on the coast of Vancouver Island, surrounded by ocean, forests and some of the most beautiful places imaginable. In 2015, I packed everything I could fit into my little car and made the move to Alberta. I did the responsible adult thing for a while. I built a corporate career, collected a comfortable paycheque and had all the security I was supposed to want. The only problem? I knew it wasn’t the life I wanted forever.
Somewhere along the way, I met my husband, fell wildly in love, planned our wedding and discovered just how much I loved the entire wedding world. That little spark eventually turned into photography courses, countless hours behind a camera and a slightly terrifying leap of faith into building the career I actually dreamed about.
These days, photography lets me combine so many of the things I love most: people, beautiful places, genuine connection and a good love story. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll usually find me with my husband and our dogs, probably planning our next adventure, wandering somewhere beautiful or curled up with a good book.
I'm Katelyn
’m so excited you’re here! I’m going to ask you all about your story, how you met, how the proposal happened, and probably a few completely unnecessary but very important questions along the way, so it’s only fair that I tell you a little about mine.
I
A snapshot into my life
My people are everything to me, and so much of who I am comes from the family I’ve been lucky enough to have in my corner.
My mom is my best friend and one of my biggest supporters through every wild idea and leap of faith. My dad taught me to be strong, resilient and never assume something was out of reach. Growing up, he always told me, “If someone else can do it, so can you.” I carried that with me into adulthood, and I genuinely believe it gave me the confidence to try things that scared me, take chances and build a life I’m proud of.
My husband is my favourite human in the world and the person who continues to push me to dream bigger, learn more and keep going. After a long wedding day, he’s usually waiting for me with water (or wine), a snack and a warm blanket ready for me to collapse on the couch.
Being an auntie is one of my absolute favourite roles. I adore my nieces and nephews, and maintaining my status as the fun aunt is a responsibility I take very seriously.
And of course, my furry family. I am completely obsessed with my dogs and cats and will happily show you an unreasonable number of photos of them. My family, whether they have two legs or four, will always be the biggest and best part of my life.
My people
family
I am completely incapable of casually enjoying a book. If I’m reading something good, it becomes my entire personality until further notice. Give me enemies to lovers, an agonizingly slow burn, morally grey characters, a little spice and preferably some magic, fae or dragons, and I’m sold. There’s just something about disappearing into another world for a few hundred pages that makes my soul happy. And yes, if you tell me your favourite book, there is a very good chance we’ll forget we were supposed to be talking about your wedding for at least ten minutes.
reading
getting lost in a good book
I will take any excuse to pack a bag, hit the road and explore somewhere new. Give me mountains, forests, turquoise lakes, rugged coastlines or a trail that leads somewhere beautiful and I’m happy. I love road trips, camping, hiking, paddleboarding and finding those little hidden places that make you stop and take it all in. Some of my favourite memories have come from adventures that didn’t go exactly according to plan, and I’m always dreaming about where we’re going next.
Vancouver Island
Travel & Adventure
The second the air gets crisp, I become a different person. Fall is my absolute favourite. Give me changing leaves, oversized sweaters, candles burning, spooky movies, Halloween decorations and an unnecessarily large collection of cozy blankets, and I’m thriving.
As much as I love an adventure, I love coming home just as much. Rainy days, comfort food, a good book and curling up on the couch with my husband and our animals is pretty much my idea of perfection. I’ll happily spend the day exploring somewhere beautiful, but I fully intend to be back in my pajamas and under a blanket by the end of it.
My pup!
Spooky Season & Staying In
There is nothing quite like seeing your favourite song performed live in a crowd of people screaming every word right along with you. Concerts are one of my favourite ways to make memories, and I will happily plan an entire trip around seeing an artist I love. Whether it’s a huge stadium show or live music somewhere a little more intimate, give me good music, good company and a night that leaves my voice gone the next morning, and I’m happy.

Katelyn Potter Photography was the absolute BEST choice for us for our wedding! From the engagement shoot, that was complimentary! It let us meet, and get to know each other which made the wedding photos so easy and comfortable! I wrote Katelyn probably 50 emails with my wants, needs, and fears. She over and above delivered far better than I could have ever hoped! My dream was to have a winter wonderland wedding, and against all odds, we had NO SNOW the week of my wedding. I was devastated days prior, Katelyn knew how important that was to me, and drove around for HOURS the night before my wedding searching for any snow options. She found the perfect spot, and I got the most GORGEOUS snow pictures. More beautiful than I could have ever dreamed. Her artistic eye, is so impressive. I was so impressed with the final product she delivered. It was also extremely important to me to have certain moments captured with I couldn’t keep my eyes dry looking at the beautiful in the moment images from the father daughter dance she captured. Just beyond perfect, my husband and I can’t put into words the level of professionalism, effort and beauty she put into our wedding. The advice, the guidance, she was just so invested! We really felt like she delivered such a personal touch! I will use her for any future photos hands down. My only regret is that I didn’t meet her sooner!

I decided to propose to my lovely girlfriend on trip to tofino (Vancouver island) and wanted some photos to memorize the occasion.
I was recommended Katelyn by a friend who had previously had her for a wedding. Upon looking into it I noticed she was located in edmonton. Now incase no one is aware Vancouver island and edmonton are a travel away( 24 hours if you realy follow the traffic signs)
The main reason this was a issue is cause my proposal was going to happen in roughly a 48 hour time frame.
So I scheduled a consultation with her to see if I was able to push this proposal a few days off.
Well let me tell you she not only understood my situation she was able catch the first flight down and make it for the Original scheduled date.
She not only setup a bunch of poses for us but also helped me make the moment even more special by introducing a surprise pose so I could pop the question.
After all of this, of course we brought her back out to the island for our wedding and were again blown away by how amazing she was!
Needless to say I was beyond impressed and would recommend her to anyone and can't stress enough how grateful I am for her timely response and quick service.

Katelyn was not only a master behind the camera but also a true professional. She and her second shooter arrived on time, maintained a friendly and approachable demeanour, and made us feel at ease throughout the session. They patiently listened to our ideas and incorporated them seamlessly into the shoot. We received our gallery yesterday which was within the time frame in our contract and we loved every photo we received back. Working with Katelyn was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Their exceptional talent, professionalism, and dedication to their craft make them a standout choice in the world of photography. We wholeheartedly recommend their services to anyone seeking extraordinary photographs and an unforgettable experience.
I am so glad I chose her as my photographer.
